News! 'Smash n Carry Harry' tackles car crime in North Derbyshire

A local bobby posing as a car thief is going on the prowl across north Derbyshire to highlight PSCO Ben Perry
insecurities as part of a campaign to clamp down on vehicle crime.

‘Smash n Carry Harry’ – a PC or PCSO from the local Safer Neighbourhood team - will be visiting towns and villages from Dronfield to Shirebrook looking for cars left at risk of being broken into.

Uniformed officers will accompany Harry and offer crime prevention advice for motorists whose cars had property left on show or doors unlocked - if Harry noticed the insecurities so would a real thief.

The initiative is part of Operation Rocky, a month-long campaign targeting serious acquisitive crime, such as burglary and car crime, in north Derbyshire.

Community Safety Partnership Sergeant Paul Smith said: “Car crime can increase around this time of year due to darker evenings and items such as Christmas presents being left on show in cars.

“Hopefully these patrols will increase awareness and make motorists think twice before leaving doors unlocked or items on display and giving thieves like Harry an open invitation.”

Harry will be visiting the following areas:

Clay Cross - Wednesday, November 2
Shirebrook – Tuesday, November 8
Dronfield – Wednesday, November 16
Bolsover – Monday, November 21
North Wingfield – Wednesday, November 23

Operation Rocky runs until Sunday, November 27. For more information on events happening in your area call 101 or visit|.
