News! The Young Voice

The Bolsover District Young Voice meets formally 4 five times a year. All secondary schools in the district (Tibshelf, Shirebrook, Bolsover, Frederick Gent, Heritage and Stubbin Wood) elect or nominate six young people as Youth Councillors each – 36 in total.

Young Voice was started as a pilot project and has since gone from strength to strength. Our Executive has also endorsed the continuation of the Youth Council and we award the Youth Council a budget to spend on projects it identifies each year.

The Young Voice has been evaluated for the last year 2011/12 and the evaluation report is now available on the Bolsover District Council website. The report gives a good flavour of what ‘The Young Voice’ is and what it does.

Dates have been set for meetings in the next school year – 25 September, 22 January, 12 March, and 18 June. All meetings will take place at 10am-12noon. If your organisation needs to get the views of, or involve young people aged 11-16, they will do their best to accommodate you.

For more information and to get involved with ‘The Young Voice’ please contact Corinna Beatson at Bolsover District Council on 01246 242300.
