Free Budget Buddies Training
Thursday 25 February 2016, 09:15 - 16:30

Budget Buddies is a mentoring/coaching provision to help people make informed choices about their finances.  Brief details are available at http://www.releaseonline.org.uk/?page_id=401. The need is becoming even more prevalent with Universal Credits 'rolling out'.

The course will cover:

  • Identifying the common causes and effects of debt.
  • Describing where to find and how to collect the information needed to prepare a budget and identifying expenditure that should be given priority.
  • Explaining the benefits of preparing a budget and describing circumstances that would require the budget to be redrawn.
  • Accurately preparing a budget from the information collected. Explaining the need for the budget to reflect the life of the family concerned.
  • Looking for ways that a person could increase their income (including an awareness of welfare benefits and Tax Credits that might be appropriate) and/or decrease their expenditure.
  • Understanding the broad debt advice process.
  • Recognising the difference between advice and information.

Money worries/issues are experienced by many people and often are part of 'a package' of issues/challenges people are facing and very often it is the innocent children in a household who are on the 'receiving end' of their parent(s)/carer(s) frustration. Budget Buddies works well as part of the answer to people's issues.

A buffet lunch is provided, along with materials, including a handbook for attendees to refer to as needed in the future.
